Moscow, August 19, 2015. — Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications publishes text of the official statement of Nikolay Nikiforov, Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications, with a view to the statement of Deputy Minister of Trade of the USA on extending the contract with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for one year.
“Yesterday we saw that the USA is not ready to fulfill it’s own promises on transferring functions on management of critical Internet to global community. Lawrence Strickling, Deputy Minister of Trade of the USA, mentioned that “international community of Internet users requires time for finalizing it’s work” that’s why contracts with IANA and ICANN will be prolonged for one more year till September 30, 2016 with possibility of prolonging up to three years after 2016.
As well as global community we are looking forward to transferring of supervisory functions of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority and we understand that contract terms on performing of this functions established by Ministry of Trade of the USA resulted in unbalanced model of Internet management.
Delaying of this process caused by unilateral refusal to leave this privileged role can result in serious disappointment of all interested parties.”
