Budapest, October 13, 2015. — Nikolay Nikiforov, Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications, and Miklos Sesztak, Minister of National Development of Hungary, met during the exhibition ITU Telecom World 2015. The parties discussed development of telecom industry in Russia, ICT development and draft memorandum on decrease of prices on telecom services in international roaming.
Nikolay Nikiforov told about development of telecom industry in Russia and noted that key activities of Minsvyaz in this direction are aimed at increasing availability of broadband Internet access, expanding number of areas covered with mobile communications, including small inhabited localities of Russia. It is also planned to cover 97% of Russian population with broadband Internet access by 2020.
Head of Minsvyaz also noted that elimination of digital divide is one of priority goals of Minsvyaz. It requires a complex approach, improvement of legislative framework in sphere of radiofrequencies use and construction of modern telecom networks in Russia. He also told about improvement of legislative framework in sphere of telecommunications, concerning development of telecom infrastructure and use of radiofrequency spectrum. This approach helps telecom operators to save on capital investments, more effectively invest in development of telecom networks in territories, where investments in constructing of telecom networks were previously considered unprofitable. Mutual use of radiofrequency spectrum will help to speed up elimination of digital divide due to providing citizens of rural and underpopulated inhabited localities with wireless broadband services. In its turn it will help to increase quality of telecom services.
Ministers discussed expansion of role of international community in management of critical Internet infrastructure, information safety of both countries and other topics of digital sovereignty of Russia and Hungary. The parties also discussed collaboration in spheres of ICT education, draft memorandum on mutual understanding concerning reduction of prices on telecom services in international roaming between Russia and Hungary and exchanged opinions on activities of Russian-Hungarian working group for infocommunication technologies and innovations.
Nikolay Nikiforov also visited Broader Way Forum 2015 and took part in summit of leaders within roundtable discussion with participation of leaders “Accelerating innovation for social impact.”
