Moscow, October 22, 2015. — First day of the meeting of telecom and IT Ministers of BRICS took place. It’s the first ever meeting of ICT Ministers of BRICS, uniting Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It was organized by Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of Russia within the Ufa declaration, adopted on the 7th summit of BRICS, which took place in July 2015 in Ufa. Infocommunication market players from five countries presented their vision of global software market demonopolisation, participation of international community in management of critical Internet infrastructure and expanding of collaboration in spheres of telecom and IT between BRICS-countries.
BRICS was presented by Andre Figueiredo, Communications Minister of Brazil, Mr. Deepak Jagdish Saxena, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information technology of India, Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China, and Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele, Minister of Telecommunications and Postal services of the South Africa. Nikolay Nikiforov, Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications of Russia, opened the meeting.
“For the first time BRICS representatives are discussing collaboration in ICT sphere,” said Nikolay Nikiforov, “It shows importance of IT and communication tools for development of modern society. Independent development of all ICT directions is a guarantee of sustainable and sovereign existence of every country.” The Minister also noted that this meeting is the first stage of mutual work of BRICS ITC Ministers.
IT forum also took place during the meeting. More than 20 branch enterprises and associations took part in the forum. Russia was presented by Acronis (data protection), Group-IB (information security solutions), Inoventica (public, private, hybrid cloud systems), Odin/Parallels (virtualization and cloud computing),Yota Devices (smartphones), 1C (accounting software, client management system, enterprise resource planning systems), Kaspersky Laboratory (antivirus software, information security systems), MCST (microprocessors and computer controlled information complexes), New cloud technologies (office applications and cloud technologies), Rosplatforma (cloud computing), T8 (telecom equipment), Yandex (web search, Internet services). BRICS was presented by CPQD, TELEBRAS — Brazil, C-DAC — India, China Mobile, China Telecom, Huawei, Inspur, ZTE — China, Telekom, Nemisa, SITA, Domains coordination center.Za — South Africa. Independent producer of mobile operating systems Sailfish Holding also took part in the forum.
Several initiatives were presented on the meeting. The parties discussed increase of connectivity of BRICS infocommunication networks, possibilities for cooperation between producers of server and telecom equipment, developers of microprocessors and perspectives of mutual development of 5G.
These initiatives will be discussed tomorrow by telecom and IT Ministers of BRICS. Perspectives of international collaboration will be defined in official communique.
