Tehran, October 25, 2015. — Nikolay Nikiforov, Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications, paid working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran and met with Dr. Mahmoud Vaezi, Minister of Communication and Information technology of Iran.
Head of Minsvyaz told about the first ever meeting of BRICS ICT Ministers, which took place on October 22–23 in Moscow. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa supported demonopolisation of global IT market. “We are uniting efforts for elimination of monopoly on global IT market. We are going to develop competitive software products that could be a high quality alternative to existing solutions. We are also expecting to expand partnership and we are encouraging all interested parties to join us,” said Nikolay Nikiforov.
Nikolay Nikiforov also told about one of successful directions of industry-specific collaboration between Russian and Iran — construction of cable communication line Europe-Persia Express Gateway (EPEG). It will be constructed from Frankfurt to Oman. This project is being carried out cooperatively with Russia, Azerbaijan, the UK, Iran and Oman. The Ministers also discussed possibilities for using Russian civil satellite grouping for delivery of telecom services and use of GLONASS system in Iran. Head of Minsvyaz also suggested services of Russian satellite Express-AM6, which was placed into operating on orbital position of 53 of Eastern longitude in April 2015.
Nikolay Nikiforov noted that Russia is interested in collaboration with Iran in spheres of public administration automation and promotion of telecom equipment for construction of mobile and fixed communication networks.
Head of Minsvyaz congratulated Dr. Mahmoud Vaezi with appointment to the position of Co-Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Trade-Economic Cooperation on the part of Iran. The 12th meeting of this Committee will take place on November 12, 2015 in Moscow.
Nikolay Nikiforov also visited Paradise technopark and data processing center of the Central bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also carried out a meeting with Ali Jannati, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran. The parties discussed development of media industry, creation of information society and development of media literacy and broadcasting on the Middle East.
Collaboration between Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran is based on the memorandum on cooperation in spheres of postal and electric communications between the Government Committee on Communication and Informatization of Russia and Ministry of Communication of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It was signed on March 5, 1998 in Tehran.
