Moscow, November 9, 2015. — Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation reports that Russian team won four medals: two gold medals in main category of middle age group and creative category of senior age group, two silver medals in creative category of junior age group and student testing on the 12th World Robot Olympiad (WRO), which took place in Qatar from 6 to 8 November. Russian team won fourth place in football competition, team from Hong Kong took third place. Russian pupils also took places from 6th to 8th in creative and 8th place in main category of junior age group. Project from Saint Petersburg won special Creativity Award.

—creative category (junior age group): team Robofriends from Saint Petersburg, trainer — Sergey Philippov;
—student category (bowling task): team PML30-students from Saint Petersburg, trainers — Dmitry and Ekaterina Luzina.
Creativity Award — special price for technical complicity of the project:

—Robot football: team Hexagon from Moscow, trainer — Sergey Mustafin.
“I want to congratulate our team with such good results, demonstrated on large international robot competitions,” said Nikolay Nikiforov, “It’s an advanced filed of scientific-technical direction and I’m happy that out youth one more time demonstrated their talents and ability to solve complex engineering tasks. Not only prizes and medals are important. It’s important that our youth is developing in sphere of radio-electronics and programming. They graduated from Russian universities and became leaders of Russian ICT sector. We should train more highly-qualified personnel in the field of ICT.”
Winners of Russian stage of the World Robot Olympiad took part in the international competition. 800 children from 43 regions of Russia took part in the Russian stage of competition in Innopolis University in the Republic of Tatarstan in June 2015.
The World Robot Olympiad was established in 2004. Above 20 teams from more than 50 countries are taking part in the WRO annually. Final of the WRO for the first time took place in Russia in Sochi in 2014.
Innopolis University is operator of the national stage of the World Robot Olympiad. Coordination of regional stages of the competition was launched in 2014. More than eight thousands of pupils and students are taking part in regional stages of the competition. The University provides training of judges, development of rules for the international Olympiad and conducts Russian stage of Olympiad.
For the second year in raw teams that demonstrated the best results on the Russian stage of competition are undergoing special training and additional selection on Federal educational and training programs in Innopolis. Russian team is formed on the basis of this selection.
